Fox hires Urban Meyer, Reggie Bush to college football broadcast team

Fox Sports announced it has hired former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer and former USC running back Reggie Bush to its college football broadcast team.

Meyer, a three-time national champion coach with the Buckeyes and Florida, retired from coaching following Ohio State’s 28-23 Rose Bowl win over Washington.

The 54-year-old had previously expressed interest in a post-coaching move to broadcasting; he briefly worked at ESPN as an analyst before he took over in Columbus in 2012 following a short break after his departure from Florida.

Fox currently has a college football studio panel that includes host Rob Stone, former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn and Bush’s former teammate, Heisman-winning QB Matt Leinart.

The new-look Saturday morning pregame show will air on Fox for one hour.

“With a head coach that won three national titles in 10 years, two of the most successful college quarterbacks in recent memory and one of the sport’s most electric running backs, our new college football pregame show has the game covered from all angles,” Mark Silverman, President of FOX Sports National Networks, said in a news release. “Not only will this all-star cast resonate with viewers because of their recent on-field accomplishments, but this group is going to have a lot of fun discussing the games each week.”

In an effort to compete with ESPN’s “GameDay,” Fox’s updated college football pre-game show will take the cast of Meyer, Bush, Leinart, Quinn and Stone to college campuses while also shooting from the Los Angeles studio, The New York Postreports

Meyer started last season suspended for three games after Ohio State investigated his conduct regarding allegations of domestic violence against former assistant Zach Smith.

The 34-year-old Bush forfeited his 2005 Heisman Trophy when the NCAA punished USC for Bush’s impermissible benefits during his heyday with the Trojans.
