A man in Arizona is dead after a swarm of bees attacked him at his home.
PHOENIX — A 51-year-old Arizona man died after being stung by bees Sunday evening, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office responded to reports of a man being stung by “numerous bees” at a residence in Yuma just before 6:30 p.m., according to officials.
Investigators discovered that Epigmenio Gonzalez had gone out to his backyard to remove a beehive from a couch when the bees became agitated and stung him, the sheriff’s office said.
Gonzalez ran to his front yard, where officials found him covered in bees.
Rural Metro sprayed Gonzalez with water and first responders took him to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.
A female victim who was at the residence at the time was also transported to the hospital with numerous bee stings. Her condition was unknown Sunday night.
Several sheriff’s office deputies and Rural Metro personnel were also stung, but none sought medical attention.
